AI massively generates false articles on Wikipedia

The most famous online encyclopaedia Wikipedia is going through a crisis due to artificial intelligence. This is reported by SUD.UA with reference to TechSpot.
In particular, users have begun publishing unverified information generated by AI using chatbots such as ChatGPT and others.
To solve the problem, a project called WikiProject AI Cleanup was created, which is a group of volunteers engaged in searching, editing and removing false information, allegedly added by generative AI.
One of the team's founders, Ilyas Lebloux, said that the problem became known when Wikipedia editors and users noticed excerpts of articles that were clearly written by a chatbot. The suspicions were confirmed when some of these texts were reproduced using ChatGPT.
The problem is not limited to new articles on Wikipedia. Unscrupulous users insert false data into existing articles.
However, the reason for this problem is obvious - Wikipedia allows anyone to become an editor. By the way, it is for this reason that many universities prohibit students from using Wikipedia as their main source of information, the publication adds.
